8 cadets took the top prize for the command task section of the Inness Sword Competition, beating 21 other squadrons with their skills in leadership and teamwork. | The cadets took part in the Inness Sword Competition, an event consisting of seperate sections taking place over a weekend. The competition, attended by cadets and staff from 22 squadrons throughout the wing all competed over the weekend of 19th to 21st September 2008. |

The Inness Sword competition is an annual event, which pushes the cadets to demonstrate the highest levels of teamwork, leadership, skills and judgement. These qualities are demonstrated in the following events: Command Task The cadets are briefed on a scenario and have to complete a manual task to achieve the goal, drawing on their teamwork and leadership skills, the winning team will complete the task in the shortest time. Obstacle Course The teams run through a "Garrison" Obstacle course, with the winning team covering the course in the least time.
Stretcher Run Carrying a loaded strecher, the winning team cover the course in the shortest time.
Navigation The cadets navigate through several checkpoints, the winners would have found the most checkpoints in the shortest period of time.
Observation Stand The team observe a series of images presented to them, the more information recalled, the higher the score.
Drill The team perform a drill sequence, marked by a Senior Warrant Officer from the Wing, they are judged on their turnout and bearing, as well as their competancy of the drill movements.
First Aid The cadets are given first aid situations to deal with in a practical and professional manner. The winning team will demonstrate a full understanding of the situation and demonstrate high levels of first aid ability.
Rifle Shooting The cadets are marked depending on the size of the grouping (how close each shot is to the others). The smaller the grouping, the higher the mark. |
