RAF Odiham - Intense in tents

Rain is no barrier for having a fun camp.

Cadets from Dagenham squadron recently took part in an RAF Summer Camp, but the weather wasn't exactly summer sun!

The summer camp based at RAF Odiham in Hook, Hampshire gave the cadets an in-depth view of the modern Royal Air Force and how it works under operational conditions.

The cadets were joined by other cadets from Balham, Battersea, Lewisham and Shoreditch. All of which were able to fly at least once during the week long camp. Their flights took place in the Chinook HC2

As well as the flying, the cadets got to visit the Chinook Engineering Squadrons, the Police and Fire Section.

A surprise visit to the summer camp was made by Mr Rob Davis flying his P51 Mustang "Big Beautfiul Doll". The cadets were able to look over the aircraft which was originally flown by Colonel John Landers, O.C. 78th FG, who during 1945 scored victories in both the Pacific and European theatres. He is credited with the destruction of 14.5 aircraft in air to air combat, with a further 20 aircraft destroyed on the ground.

Cadet Sophie Peppitt (2048 (Dagenham) Squadron) took the award for 'Best Cadet' of the camp.

Sergeant Jack Fray (2048 (Dagenham) Squadron) took the award for 'Best NCO' of the camp.
