St Athan is the home of the Defence Aircraft Repair Agency (DARA). Major maintenance tasks on a wide variety of RAF Aircraft ranging from Harriers and Tornados to VC10s are carried out here. Other units are a Mountain Rescue Team, the University of Wales Air Squadron with Tutor T1s and No. 634 Volunteer Gliding School with Viking TX1s.

odiham_0307.jpg RAF Odiham - Summer Camp 2007
Originally a temporary Summer Landing Ground, Odiham opened in 1936 as an Army Co-operation base. Tactical reconnaissance and fighter roles followed before the base began an affiliation with Transport duties, particularly helicopters, that continues to this day. Currently based at Odiham are No 7 Squadron with 11 Chinook HC2s, No 18 Squadron with 10 Chinook HC2s and No 27 Squadron with 9 Chinook HC2s. The last of these incorporates the Operational Conversion Flight for the Chinook.

A training weekend (Exercise First Look 08) took place at Brunswick Camp, ATR Pirbright on Friday 11 Jan 08 to Sunday 13 Jan 08. The aim of this camp was to allow cadets to undertake either Initial Weapons Training on the L98-A1 and pass the associated Weapons Handling Tests, or to allow cadets already qualified on the L98-A1 to undertake Young Life Saver Plus training and pass the associated assessments. All cadets also had the opportunity to undertake Live Firing Marksmanship Training on the L98-A1, along with taking part in a run-through on the Pirbright Obstacle Course.
